Hi, I’m Kandyce!

Welcome to the blog! I created this blog as an extension to content posted on social media. Here, you'll find full-form pieces with more details, resources, and information on some of the topics I share snippets about on Instagram. Social media is great, but sometimes, it can be difficult to convey complex ideas with brevity.

I figured it would be fitting for my first post to be an introductory post. So, hello! My name is Kandyce. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the glorious Sunshine State. Though I'm a licensed therapist, by no means is any information here to be considered medical advice, nor does this enter us into a therapeutic relationship. Cool? Cool.

Some more background. In addition to my licensure, I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). That means I've been trained to provide rehabilitation counseling, particularly to individuals with disabilities. I received my Bachelors in Psychology from the University of Central Florida (Go Knights!) and my Masters in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the University of South Florida. Truly a house divided. I've been providing counseling services since 2014. Most of my counseling experience has been providing individual and group therapy to those experiencing grief and loss. I've facilitated various support groups, including Bereaved Parents, Survivors of Suicide Loss, Homicide Loss, and Children's Grief.

I'm passionate about spreading awareness about mental health, in the hopes that this will reduce stigma. As a Black woman, I largely focus on this within the Black/African-American communities by discussing how the lack of open dialogue and generational trauma can affect us. Awareness can be empowering, and the first step to making any change is knowing what's happening and why.

I'm open to any questions, comments, feedback, and (respectful) dialogue. Thank you for being here. I'm looking forward to our journey together!

-K
